Hudson Valley
Global Youth Connect is committed to inspiring and
motivating youth in our own community -- the Hudson Valley
region of upstate New York -- to get involved in our work.
Through various activities conducted in partnership with
local organizations and schools, GYC hopes to increase
the opportunity for local youth to promote human rights not
only in our own community but in solidarity with youth
around the world.
To date, our work in the Hudson Valley has included the
following activities:
-
Organized workshops on youth human rights activism for the
Girls' Leadership Workshop organized by the Eleanor
Roosevelt Center at Val-Kill
-
Designed and facilitated a workshop on challenges faced by
girls around the world for the local Girl Scouts
association
-
Presented at local schools, including Woodstock Day School
and Saugerties High School, about human rights challenges
faced by youth in Rwanda
-
Organized a workshop series entitled "Youth in the Global
Community" for an after school program at Ellenville High
School in partnership with Family Services of New York
-
Led a workshop for the Dutchess Mediation Center's annual
youth conference on "Youth and Conflict in the Global
Community
-
Recruited students from local colleges, including Bard
College, SUNY-New Paltz and Vassar College to participate
in our international human rights delegations and as
interns and volunteers for GYC.
-
Hosted a public film screening of "Through My Eyes", a
film about Rwandan youth at the Rosendale Theater
-
Served on committees for local organizations such as Rural
and Migrant Ministry's Youth Empowerment Program, the
World Affairs Council of the Mid-Hudson Valley, and the
Girls Scouts of Dutchess County
In the coming years we hope to expand our educational
efforts in the Hudson Valley encouraging local youth to
participate in our programs and to add value to the work of
other local organizations through strategic partnerships.

presentation at your school or in your community, please
